About
The term ‘Sikh’ originates from the Persian word for ‘to learn,’ reflecting the Sikh commitment to continuous learning and growth. This engagement with knowledge is central to Sikh identity, with each individual striving to build upon their understanding. Sikhs hold a deep respect for all faiths, refraining from actively seeking converts. A fundamental tenet of the faith is ‘seva,’ or selfless service to the community. One embodiment of this principle is the langar system, where a vegetarian communal meal is freely provided to all, regardless of background, throughout the day in gurdwaras. However, seva extends beyond langar and encompasses various forms of altruistic service to the community, such as volunteering.
Sikhs believe that God will be pleased by serving the Sangat and taking care of their communities. Doing is a way to bring them closer to God and develop their spirituality. Because people practice Sikhism all over the world, you can find those who belong to the Sikh faith in every community and area. The highest population of Sikhs outside India is found in Canada.
The Baba Makhan Shah Lubana Sikh Society of BC works with and served the community in BC with community and philanthropic efforts and Baba Makhan Shah Lubana’s principles and honor.
